This year’s High North Dialogue conference was titled “Business in the Arctic: New Realities” and explored the changes in the landscape of economic, political, and environmental opportunities and challenges in the High North. Key topics included the intersection of security politics and Nordic cooperation, the growing potential of the New Space Industry, the urgent need for a Green Transition towards sustainable practices, and the emerging Blue Opportunities in maritime and ocean-based industries. Together, these themes highlight the Arctic’s changing role in global business and the need for innovative solutions to navigate its unique complexities.

The Team Nordic Arctic project led by ProTromsø, BusinessOulu and Umeå kommun, a three-year project funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted its own side-event during the conference in Bodø.

The project has reached its halfway mark, and we look back on what are the results so far and what impacts has it had for the companies that have participated in the different events and activities for the last year and a half.

Eeva Lähetkangas, business owner and founder of Munpiiri, from Oulu, Finland

Today we got the opportunity to meet and hear from several of the entrepreneurs who shared their experiences with East-West collaborations in the north. We asked the questions of what does it take to succeed as a young entrepreneur in the Arctic, what are the benefits of creating your own company in the north, and what can we as support mechanisms contribute to their national and international success?

Alexander Espeseth, founder of LUGN Games presented the upcoming activities for the company

The program included a short presentation from the project managers of the previous activities and events, followed by the company presentations from Munpiiri, Tromsø Sentrum, LUGN Games and Locat3d.

We would like to thank your participating companies joining us today to share their experiences and benefits from the Team Nordic Arctic activities, as well as the conference High North Dialogue to welcome us and to our partners.

The Team Nordic Arctic is a project funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Arktis 2030. The goal of the project, led by ProTromsø, is to strengthen the North Nordic region through business collaborations. The project aims to enhance the cooperation between Norway, Sweden and Finland in the Arctic by applying Norwegian know-how on Arctic society, business, and knowledge.

The overall goal of the project is enhanced Nordic cooperation in the High North in difficult times. We aim to strengthen the Arctic communities in the Nordic countries through sustainable business development, recruitment of youth talents and the inclusion of indigenous people and minorities. One of the main work packages includes Arctic Business Matchmaking in each of the three partnering countries, held in Oulu, Finland, Umeå, Sweden and Tromsø, Norway.

If you wish to hear more about participating in the project or in the B2B matchmakings, please contact project manager Julie-Helene D. Sørensen at julie@protromso.com
